Claire combines an understanding of the psychology of design and place making, with a talent for making things look just right. The spaces she creates accentuate the existing qualities of a building or a place - bringing to the fore history, stories, character and layering in a new season or chapter. She is very confident in playing with the period, and cultural references to craft interiors that feel rooted and authentic.
Claire’s strategic offer recognises how design, and any investment in a refurbishment, has a broader role to play in a business or family plan. It can be leveraged to support a shift in patterns of behaviours, brand, culture, relationships and opportunities to change direction. It offers opportunities for new partnerships and building audiences online and in real life. Like all investments, a clear-eyed focus on the intended ROI in terms of life-outcomes, joy or actual financial or business growth is needed. Claire ensures this is defined at the outset and then monitored throughout.
Claire previously led design teams across public realm projects for Future Cities London and Gehl Architects in Copenhagen. She was also a Design Expert for the Design Council and acted as design consultant on many major schemes such as the Earls Court redevelopment. Claire has long been a proponent for human-centric design - understanding how places make us feel, and how they nudge us to behave. She has written and presented widely on the subject of designing for the senses for the Guardian, TEDX, Design Manchester, Festival of Ideas Bristol, V&A, Hyper Island, LSE, and more.
She has an MSc in Design Sociology from The London School of Economics, a First Class degree in Painting from Chelsea College of Art, and a Diploma in Art and Design from Central St Martins.
