Mookerjee Design Studio is a London-based residential interior design firm founded by Claire Mookerjee in 2016. Having spent a decade working in design for urban and public realm projects all over the world, Claire has combined her design skills and experience of running complex projects with her first love of painting and colour to create Mookerjee Design Studio. She is an accredited member of the British Institute of Interior Design.

Claire’s approach is one of sensitivity to place and period.  With a mixed heritage herself, she moves fluidly between styles, cultures and references.

We deliver projects with our network of local makers, suppliers of bio-based materials and antique and reclamation specialists. We are experienced in collaborating with architects, engineers and other buiding and environmental consultants.

Claire has particular experience in universal design principles, and we are developing a full-service offer to downsizers looking to create an elegant fit for their new lifetime homes.

We offer the traditional range of interior design services as well as a full turn-key service.

‘We shape our buildings, thereafter they shape us.’

We start with listening, understanding what you’re hoping to achieve in terms of lifestyle and working with you to chart a course towards that goal in the most elegant and resource-efficient way. We are mindful of return-on-investment - financial returns if you’re looking to market a home, and lifestyle returns if you’re planning to live in it.

We love drawing, producing hand sketches and plans quickly and working with clients to find layouts and looks that meet their needs. Beyond that we create all the packages required appropriate to the scale of project.

If you are remodelling or refurbishing, or just want to refresh your home, get in touch to discuss how we can help:

Claire has written, taught and spoken widely on design and society including at V&A, TED, Festival of Ideas Bristol, Design Manchester, Hyper Island, NID India, for the Guardian newspaper and many others.

Prior to starting Mookerjee Design she was Head of Design at Future Cities, a Built Environment Expert at The Design Council, and a designer at both LSE Cities and Gehl Architects in Copenhagen.

Born in the Lake District to an Indian father and Irish mother, Claire grew up moving around the the UK, visiting Kolkata and observing the enormous differences in the organisation of life and everyday practices and the spaces that contain and create those cultures. She moved to London to study Art and Design at Central St Martins, and went on to achieve a First Class degree in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art and an MSc in Design Sociology from the London School of Economics before embarking on her career. She lives in North London with her family.
